A Testimonial Regarding Adrenalize
by Xymon Owain
I never was a fan of The Exercise, deeming it too much like hard work.
As a result, I piled on the pounds, and was nudging 15st.
This was a worry, as some of the rides at Alton Towers have a 15st limit!
So it was time to do something about it.
I knew Michelle Kime of Adrenalize through friends of mine, and at an aquaintance's birthday party, I finally plucked up the courage to broach the subject of having a consultation.
I was dreading it, but we talked through my options and discussed diet, fitness levels and measurements. Despite my lethargy, poor food choices and general lack of enthusiasm for actually exercising, 'chelle put me at my ease and was good at getting me over the initial inertia and putting some motivation back into me.
I began with a Bootcamp session, just to see how unfit I really was. The bootcamp sessions are a weekly gathering of a small number of people, and there are 5 elements:
- Warm up
- Individual exercises
- Paired exercises
- Team challenge
- Cool down
Next, I began the one-to-one sessions. This I was really dreading - a whole hour of full on, non-stop exercise! I was convinced I wouldn't long into my first session.
However, my fears were unfounded.'chelle explained how each exercise functioned, and how we would start and build up. We worked through each, finding where my comfort zones were, and what my limits were.
Not once was I made to feel uncomfortable for not being able to accomplish something. 'chelle is excellent at seeing where you begin to struggle and quickly stop and adjust the task to suit the current fitness level. Nothing is compulsory - and she is happy to change and adjust the training plan if you feel an exercise doesn't suit you.
After my first session, I was pleased to discover that not only had I managed to complete a whole hour of diverse activities, but I had enjoyed it and felt much more positive thanks to her encouragement, knowledge and motivation. Surprisingly for me, I was looking forward to the next session.
I continue to attend the weekly Bootcamp. I find this to be a good way to get some more varied exercises, and also good to catch up with others' progress.
As for my one-to-one sessions - I have settled into a regime of boxing, followed by weights, and a final session of abdominal exercises. Each week I have subtly been pushed more and more. Although each session seems as tough as the first, each week has become more intense, yet always staying within my limits.
And each week, bootcamp & one-to-one's are kept fresh, trying out new ideas and introducing new elements. eg introducing a russian twist to a standard sit up pass off a medicine ball, combining the Tug o' War & Tyre flip into a speed challenge of pulling the tyre with 'chelle in it, adding a Step into the boxing section, etc.
As a result, I have become much more me. As of my 13th session, I had lost exactly 3st. In addition, my waistline has dramatically decreased, and I have much more energy. In fact, I'm much happier within myself, and all as a result of working with 'chelle to achieve this goal.
It really is a pleasure to work with 'chelle. I would never have believed I could get this far if not for her in-depth knowledge, motivation & inspiration. 'chelle cares passionately about fitness, and is very clear about what is working and what isn't, and all without demeaning me. I feel confident that any challenge or exercise she sets is fully within my capabilities.
Sure, you can go down the gym, stick your iPod on, and do some token exercise. You could go to a gym and have a personal trainer barking commands at you, pushing you too hard you give up. You need someone like 'chelle who cares about you. Someone who takes your limits and abilities into account, and tailors a plan that suits you perfectly. Someone who keeps it inspiring, motivating, fresh, and not a chore.
